Facebook has launched an Instagram Lite app Previously limited to India, the Instagram Lite app is now available in 170 countries, including Sri Lanka.
Instagram developers say that with the introduction of the Instagram lite app, people on entry level smartphones, as well as those with limited data plans, will be able to use the Instagram platform.

It is learned that they use a number of optimizations including image compression, CDN caching and have also removed some animations as well as AR filters to enhance the performance.
It is also reported that they are currently working on giving a dark theme to the Instagram lite app and will be able to find out more about it in the coming months.
The Instagram lite app is only available for Android devices and can be downloaded from the Google Play Store.
